NEW ORLEANS - Bishop Guertin’s Tom Cassetty has been named the 2024 New Hampshire Boys Cross Country High School Coach of the Year U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The organization named its top head coaches from all 50 states on Jan. 15 based on their teams’ performances throughout the 2024 cross country season. Among the factors taken into consideration were team score and placement at the state championships, margin of victory, performance against rankings if available, individual championships, and how their teams’ performances stacked up to previous years.
Cassetty will now be considered for National Coach of the Year along with his 49 fellow state winners.
This year’s honor went to the Cardinals’ head coach on the strength of leading BG to the 2024 Division I State Championship as well as the top spot on the podium at the Meet of Champions where the best teams from across the Granite State competed against one another regardless of division.
Under his guidance, Matthew Giardina has risen to the top of the New Hampshire ranks for boys high school runners, winning the Meet of Champions, competing at both major national cross country meets this fall and securing his place to run at the Division I University of New Mexico next fall.
For Cassetty, this is his second time receiving the honor as he was also the NH winner in 2021.
