Girls Soccer Earns Sportsmanship Award
Updated on 01/06/2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award recipients for high school programs competing during the 2024 fall season were announced on New Year’s Eve by United Soccer Coaches, one of the nation’s governing bodies for coaches.

The Bishop Guertin girls soccer team was one of just a handful of teams honored for their fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game. BG — under head coach Mr. Chris Millett — was one of 15 girls programs nationally to earn a Silver Award. In total, only 53 total boys and girls teams from across the entire United States were recognized for sportsmanship exhibited on the pitch.

Recognition is earned by the cumulative number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season divided by the number of games played (i.e., 5 cards divided by 20 games played is 0.25 or 25%, which qualifies for a Silver Award).

To earn silver, the percentage of cards accumulated during the season must range from 11-30%.

“I am incredibly proud of the Varsity team and the program as a whole for demonstrating such strong character throughout the season," Millet said. "Our program’s focus has always been about more than just winning – it’s about representing BG with pride and dignity, as well as supporting each other both on and off the field. This team has set a high standard for what it means to be a part of the BG girls soccer program."

Congratulations to our girls soccer program on this very commendable national honor.
